LEARNING NEW THINGS

GEORGE WALTERS One More Story You can reach George Walters at: stories@keepingnotes.com

Now that I am getting a wee bit older, I have come to understand that a lot of things were learned either on the farm or from elders.

But that’s not to say that I should or would stop learning.

Not by a long shot, as this old mind of mine is still yearning for new things to learn.

As with anything though, you need to have someone or something willing to give you a hand from time to time.

One item would be these new fang-dangled computers.

It seems that, I just get used to one and things are going along just fine, and they break down.

When that happens, I am lost, as I don’t have a clue on how to repair them.

But not all is lost, as I do have a couple boys who are very smart, when it comes to this new technology, and if something should go wrong, they either fix it through the internet, or when all else fails I drop it off for them to repair.

I know it is hard for some of us older folks to get used to computers, and some refuse to do so. And I understand that, as in the beginning, I was the same.

But being who I am and always wanting to learn new things a few years ago, I decided to jump in with both feet so to speak.

What I had to do at first was to stop being so self complacent and look to the young for help, which I did.

I think the hardest part of venturing into new areas in life is getting over the fear of failure. However, it can be done if you’re willing.

Would I recommend learning how to operate the computers of today?

Most definitely, as to me, it is a way of seeing the future, a way of relieving a bit of the stress that a day might bring; along with a way of reaching out to the world for more help in your search of wanting to learn more.

I think just sitting back dwelling on the past, day in and day out, not wanting to move forward, is a waste of life. So why not give these new marvels of today a try? What have you got to lose?

Hmm, well, maybe that isn’t the best choice of words, as you do have to be careful, as there are so many scam artists out there today, that like to take advantage of us older folks.

But, don’t let folks like that scare you. If you’re unsure, go to your children, friends, or the authorities and ask what to do. It’s as simple as that.

Heck, us older folks have learned a lot over the years, and here is where our wisdom that we have learned comes to play.

So my friends. If asked, my advice to you is with caution, take advantage of some of this technology that is out there today, whenever you get the chance.

We all have strengths and weaknesses that shape our personalities, why not use them to better ourselves?

In closing, I would like to wish you well.
