Two hospice facilities within the Nipissing District will share more than half a million dollars in provincial top-up funding, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced Friday.

The $543,100 in additional onetime funding is to address growing pressures and increase access to high-quality palliative care to support existing residential hospice capacity through increased operational funding for Ministry-approved beds.

These funds will most definitely help us achieve our goal.

“This investment will help local patients receive the respect, dignity and care they deserve at every stage of their lives, while ensuring Nipissing Serenity Hospice and the Mattawa Hospital have the tools, they need to continue to provide high-quality care,” Fedeli said. “Our government is committed to improving access to comfortable, end-of-life care in communities across the province including here in Nipissing.”

Nipissing Serenity Hospice will receive $473,000 and $70,100 to the Mattawa Hospital.

“Nipissing Serenity Hospice is grateful to the Ontario Government for providing additional operational funding to ease some of the financial burden faced by hospices across Ontario,” said Gil Pharand, Executive Director, Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

“This funding will assist us in continuing to deliver high-quality holistic care in a home-like setting for the residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. On behalf of the communities we serve, our residents and their loved ones, thank you.”

Tanya Bélanger, President and CEO of the Mattawa Hospital said as the operational costs continue to increase, we are very appreciative of the top-up funding for our state of the art one bed hospice suite.

“We are dedicated to provide our community with the highest quality palliative and end of life care, and these funds will most definitely help us achieve our goal.”
